The five open major chord shapes are:

C Major • A Major • G Major • E Major • D Major

The diagrams below show the chord tones and note names for each CAGED shape.

Notice that every shape contains the three chord tones of a major triad:

1–3–5

The CAGED shapes connect across the fretboard in this repeating order:

C → A → G → E → D → C
